Song Shots: Metro Station – Shake It

“Shake It” by Metro Station is a catchy punk/techno/dance song that was the first single off the band’s self titled album that came out in 2007. This song is definitley worth a listen.

Band Bonding: A Review of Hypnogaja’s album Truth Decay and an Interview with Hypnogaja

Hypnogaja is a modern rock band from Los Angeles, California. They have a sound that fits in very well with the likes of some of the bands they’ve toured with, like Shinedown and Saliva. I had the pleasure of conducting an email interview with the band recently, but before we get to that let’s talk a little about their latest record: Truth Decay.

Band Bonding: A Review of OK Go’s album Of the Blue Colour of the Sky and An Interview with Dan Konopka of OK Go

OK Go is one of the most unique bands around. Typically, I tend to compare a band’s sound to that of another, but with them I can’t. I found that no comparison does the description of their sound justice. OK Go formed in 1998 though the lead singer Damian Kulash and bassist Tim Nordwind, who met when they were 11 years old. Dan Konopka and Andy Ross joined up later on. The band first found major success through the help of their legendary treadmill video for “Here It Goes Again” when it blew up on Youtube. It currently has 50,988,412 views.

Record Review: Train – Save Me, San Francisco

Train is an Alternative/Pop rock band from San Francisco, California that formed back in 1994. The band first found massive success in 2001 with the song “Drops Of Jupiter” from the album of the same name.

Song Shots: Train – Hey, Soul Sister

This song is easy to relate to if you’re lucky enough to have found your soul mate. The above lyric stands out the most to me and is my favorite from the song. You can feel this song with every beat. The acoustic guitar makes for a beautiful background while the drums lead the way.

Dissertation: Politics

We Americans were unlucky in the 90’s. Sure, plenty of good music came out of that decade, but it wasn’t really substantial. The radio co-opted main-stream radio. And while I listen to anything, on occasion, they have changed from their roots. Pop sold sex, Rap propagated anger, and Rock said…nothing. The ‘Protest Song’ was lost, and this was a tragedy for Americans.

Record Review: Relient K – Forget And Not Slow Down

Relient K is a Christian rock band that started showing up on the radar in the late 90’s. The band has a sound that continues to evolve with every new album. They resemble the sound of most emo/new punk bands that are around but the one major difference is the uplifting sound and lyrics of their songs, even if the message behind it is a depressing subject. They always try and put a positive twist on it.

Road Review: Pick Up the Phone Tour

On Sunday, April 10th 2010, I had a chance to go see the Pick Up The Phone Tour Featuring Hurricane Bells, Stars of Track and Field, and Blue October. This tour is a collaboration of these bands as well as To Write Love on Her Arms, PostSecret and 1-800-Suicide National Hopeline Network to raise suicide awareness. It is a brilliant way to raise suicide awareness and bring to light a problem that too often goes unnoticed. This tour was designed to help people suffering from mental health issues and show them that they have somewhere to turn for help.

Error 404: Music Not Found

Hey all I know I kind of fell off the map for a bit. I was in the middle of moving and had no internet until now. I’m seeing Blue October this Saturday so you can expect a post about the show that night or the following morning!

Song Shots: Phoenix – 1901

This is probably my favorite line from the song. This song by Phoenix has the right mix of rock, dance, and techno sound to get you moving. The up beat and constant drums mixed with the catchy lyrics and simple but enticing guitar riffs make for the perfect hook. It’s the type of song that gets in your head and has you humming it for the rest of the day.
