Record Review: Impossible Landscape by Children of Nova

Like many who dabbled with the game Rock Band a few years back, I was occasionally exposed to a few curious stand-outs, the ones who crept their way into the archives amidst the landmark crowd-pleasers of the last fifty years. One of these new and exciting bands was the Post-Prog wonder, Children of Nova. Their hits, “The Complexity of Light” and “Aracaedion,” weren’t just fun songs to rock out to in the game (though of course they still are); I personally found myself mesmerized at how simultaneously inventive and catchy they were, both on and off the Xbox, despite being relatively unknown.

Wizard Rock Roundup: Post Potter Depression Edition

Lauren Fairweather is a huge name in Wizard Rock. She is acoustic and folksy, funny, but also capable of beautiful characterization and storytelling through music. I hated her at first. I have no idea why! I’m such a sucker for anything acoustic that you’d think I’d adore the crap out of her. I guess the first songs I heard from her just weren’t impressive enough.

Record Review: The Killers – Battle Born

From the first few lines to the last few chords, you are in for a ride! It is a very simple ride: the sort you might experience going to and from work each day, or maybe on that hour-long trip to Grandma’s for the holidays. While there were a few tracks that stood out, this album is the travel equivalence of a police car pulling over a speeding motorist.
