Trigger Tracks: Manic

You know you should get to work, or get to sleep, or just get calm—but you can’t. Without prompting, your heart starts racing, your blood starts pounding, and your breath starts coming up short. A manic mood overtakes you, spurring movement and placidity alike. With a furious grunge chorus, surrounded by jarring guitar notes and the melancholy whine of the lyrics, “Psycho”, by Puddle of Mudd, exemplifies the emotional chaos of a manic mood. Building to a crescendo of screaming lyrics, the song then drops you back down just before your heart begins to burst. If there is any song that captures true mania for me, it has to be “Psycho.”
