It’s recommendation time again! This week’s song is thanks to my recent guest on Autographs, Mr. Lee VaLone! This week’s song is Soap by Badflower. Ever since I interviewed him and we talked about his Soap act I’ve been listening to this song on repeat. It’s got everything I love about alt-rock/indie rock. With creeping guitar, emphatic singing and lyrics, back and forth energy shifts, and high emotion it hits all the right buttons for those who want to rage a little. This is one that I’ll be spinning for a while. If you like your rock heavy and a little erratic then this is definitely for you.
Today, Matt welcomes Lee VaLone, a drag king, producer, and burlesque performer based in NYC. The producer of BEEF SHOW at Bizarre Bushwick and also ‘Jump Shark!’ (a monthly open mic Drag, Burlesque, & Vocals event that fundraises for Planned Parenthood), Lee VaLone is also the current reigning Mr. Coney Island. With Matt, Lee chats about his start in drag and burlesque, and discusses some of his most iconic performances. With the duo, Matt chats about their new monthly variety show at BIZARRE Bushwick (DJ’d by Matt himself). They also chat about how they got their start in performance and burlesque, their background in theater and dance, how they create new performances, and what goes into producing a variety show vs. a burlesque show. And so from their production company (Kinetic Cabaret Productions) to how the duo met, fell in love, and got married, here’s presenting Matt Storm and the Brides of Burlesque.
