Ep. #46 – Feat. Doc Wasabassco

Today Matt welcomes Doc Wasabassco—fake doctor, but real burlesque kingpin, hailing from Brooklyn, NY. Doc is the host and producer for a burlesque company which he’s come to emblemize. On his humble beginnings in burlesque and the origin of Wasabassco entertainment and showcases (which is closely tied to Andy Heidel and The Way Station), Doc chats about how he had to overcome tremendous stage fright and how he wasn’t always comfortable behind a microphone. He chats about the variety of shows and themes that Wasabassco has tackled over the years, the NY burlesque community, as well as the Agents of Wasabassco (a tight and supportive community within the company). Ep. #45 – Feat. Kelly Ogden of The Dollyrots

Today, Matt welcomes the lead singer and bassist for The Dollyrots, Kelly Ogden. The Dollyrots’ newest album is a live album called Family Vacation: Live From Los Angeles, released alongside a DVD of the same name! The album is essentially a live greatest hits of the band’s 16-year long career. Hear Kelly and Matt chat about how the band has evolved over the years and where it’s headed in the future. She chats about her life as a rock n’ roll mom, and how that’s affected her writing, touring, and especially scheduling. She also chats about why the band decided to release a live album instead of a new LP, why they included the cover of “Brand New Key”, and what that song meant to Kelly specifically.

Ep. #43 – Feat. Mike Rugnetta

Today, Matt welcomes fellow Brooklyn resident, content creator, and internet personality, Mike Rugnetta. You might know Mike as host of the Idea Channel for PBS Digital Studios, or as host of the podcast Reasonably Sound. He’s also a composer (among other things). With Matt, Mike discusses the origins of the Idea Channel, a YouTube series self-described as examining “the connections between pop culture, technology, and art.” He talks about the show’s development, the origin and impact of his uniquely thorough Comment Response videos, and the active community surrounding the series. He also talks about his work with Reasonably Sound, along with his background in theater, music composition, computer science, and critical theory, all of which inform his many projects. Finally, with some inevitable asides on comics, movies, and video games (not to mention a brief hosts’-hat switcheroo), here’s presenting Matt Storm and Mike Rugnetta.

Ep. #42: Feat. Ayron Jones of Ayron Jones & The Way

Today Matt welcomes Ayron Jones, the guitarist and frontman of the rock band Ayron Jones & The Way. Hailing from Seattle, Washington, the band’s latest releases are the singles “Boy from the Puget Sound”, and, as of this February, “Lay Your Body Down.” They also have a full-length album from 2013 called Dream. Hear Ayron chat about what it was like growing up in Seattle during the grunge movement and how it affected his musical development. He also talks about what it was like working with Sir Mix-A-Lot and having him produce the album Dream. Enjoy some final notes on Ayron’s love of playing live as well as his hopes for the band’s next tour.
